Course Description
This course enables students to examine the stages of child development and the aging process. Students will study the processes of disease and factors contributing to health and well-being in early and later life. Students will also learn about social and recreational programs and career paths in child and geriatric care.
Units of Study
Unit One: Child Development Fundamentals (Areas of child development & major milestones)
Unit Two: Child Development Theories (Maslow, Erikson), development & care of infants & school age children.
Unit Three: Health & Safety, special needs & curriculum planning.
Unit Four: Gerontology – aging development & physical characteristics of aging.
Unit 5: Gerontology - nutritional needs, elderly abuse & Dementia.
